Are you concerned about higher energy costs at home due to air leaks? Find out if there are any and what your home's energy rating is with blower door testing provided by Todd's Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. Our professionals can then seal off those leaks and keep your residence as energy efficient as possible!
What Is Blower Door Testing?
Our blower door tests measure the air infiltration of your home. The blower door itself consists of a frame and flexible panel that fits in a doorway, a variable-speed fan, a pressure gauge to measure the pressure differences inside and outside your home, and an airflow manometer and hoses for measuring airflow.
As the test is being conducted, we monitor all your home's interior spaces for any air escaping or coming in. If an area does have a leak, we seal it up. After the test is complete, we return to replace, repair, or fill in any gaps using the latest technology and products!
Benefits of a Properly Sealed Home
Whether you have an older or a newer home, you can benefit by having it properly sealed:
- Reduced energy consumption caused by air leakage
- Avoids moisture condensation problems
- Avoids uncomfortable drafts caused by cold air leaking in from the outdoors
Prepare for Your Blower Door Test
To prepare for your blower door test, you'll want to take the following steps:
- If you heat with wood, be sure all fires are completely out - even coal fires - before our technician arrives. Remove any ashes from open fireplaces
- Plan to do a walk-through of your home with our technician. Be prepared to point out areas that you know are drafty or difficult to condition comfortably
- Our technician will request access to all areas of your home, including closets, built-in cabinets, attics, crawl spaces, and any unused rooms
- Our technician will need to close all exterior doors and windows, open all interior doors, and close any fireplace dampers, doors, and woodstove air inlets
- For accurate results and safety, our technician will set the controls on all atmospheric fossil fuel appliances to ensure that they do not fire during the test. Our technician will return them to the original position after the test
- Expect the test to take up to an hour or more, depending on the complexity of your home
